Rebuild 3 comes closest to reclaiming a neighborhood; They Are Billions makes expansion a defensive gamble. Cepheus Protocol, Dead State and Zombie Defence bring the camera progressively closer to the people doing the dangerous work.

Do you want to give the orders, or bring the supplies home yourself?

Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville makes every recovered block a little victory. Expand your fort across an existing city, claim useful buildings and give survivors jobs. The neighborhood determines your opportunities.

A grocery store helps while there is food left to scavenge. Farms provide recurring production, improved by assigned workers; builders can convert suitable buildings. Keep a reclaimed block, or spend labor giving it a new purpose?

Your people make that decision expensive. Scavenging, building and engineering draw on individual skills. Sending your best worker outside can mean postponing the project that would make tomorrow easier.

Choose real-time or turn-based play, then let events and neighboring factions complicate the map. Missions abstract Infection Free Zone's street-level squad movement, but the pleasure of making a whole district useful is wonderfully intact.

They Are Billions makes rich land irresistible, then asks what it will cost to hold. Sawmills and quarries need the right terrain. Housing supplies workers and income; those people need food, and the colony needs energy.

Tesla Towers extend construction coverage into the map. Every promising expansion also stretches the defensive line. Another productive district is only a good investment if it survives the next wave of visitors.

Walls, towers and troops buy security; tactical pause buys thinking time. Use it. One infected colonist building can turn a breach into a spreading collapse.

You build from the ground up, with workers serving mainly as economic capacity. Campaign objectives provide direction; randomized Survival maps invite another attempt after disaster. Expect a painful reset when a Survival colony falls: that magnificent layout still has to pass its exam.

Cepheus Protocol hands you a military operation across the Bay Area. Command CERC forces, establish fortified positions and decide where reinforcements will do the most good.

Power is local: a generator supplies its own zone. Another defensive position needs infrastructure as well as troops. Civilian buses feed intake and screening, with onward evacuation routes needing protection and coordination.

Switch from RTS orders to direct third-person combat with customizable Operators. Intervening personally changes an urgent fight, but the wider operation still demands attention. This is the military commander's chair, with occasional reasons to leave it.

The standard Rebuild version supports solo play and up to 16-player co-op in Pandemic and Horde. Friends can share several fronts. Early Access pathfinding and pacing are still being refined, so expect some rough edges alongside the ambitious command scale.

Dead State: Reanimated gives the workforce names, skills and opinions. Home is a school in Texas, and your field party comes from the residents keeping it working. The Job Board makes expeditions a staffing decision.

Taking a capable survivor outside might bring home crucial parts, but delay repairs or production needing their skills. The strongest fighting team is not automatically the smartest use of everyone's day.

Trips cross a world map to separate locations. Turn-based fights spend Action Points on movement and attacks; gunfire can attract trouble. Travel time and carrying capacity complicate that tempting distant haul.

Conversations give shortages a human face, and leadership takes more than a stocked pantry. Expect a slower, dialogue-heavy rhythm and a fixed refuge. The reward is knowing whose work, trust and safety keep that school alive.

Zombie Defence puts the supply run under your fingertips. Move and aim independently on desktop, make space to reload and fight through the street. Touch controls assist firing; positioning still keeps you busy.

Separate Scrap expeditions send you searching containers and heading for an extraction pad. Even a failed expedition contributes its collected Scrap, up to storage capacity. A rough outing can still advance that weapon project.

Back home, Scrap funds consumable supplies, crafted equipment and shelter improvements. Fixed stations need inputs and storage space; assigned workers keep production moving. Spend for the next fight, or save for something that changes several fights?

Crops support the shelter, research develops your options and Mara's authored conversations give home a familiar face. Compact stations keep preparation focused. Build the equipment, take it outside and put your investment to work.

Which one should you try?

Start with Rebuild 3 for city reclamation, or go bigger with They Are Billions and Cepheus Protocol. Dead State's people and Zombie Defence's personal supply runs bring responsibility closer. Someone has to make this neighborhood work.

Your questions, answered.

Rebuild 3, for reclaiming buildings and assigning skilled survivors across a growing fort. Its map missions abstract street-level movement and fighting.

None of these five reproduces Infection Free Zone's real-world location selection. Stay with Infection Free Zone if recognizing your own streets is essential.

Cepheus Protocol supports up to 16 players in Pandemic and Horde in the standard Rebuild version. The other four picks are single-player.

Collected Scrap is retained after extraction, defeat or settlement following an interrupted browser-page reload, within storage capacity. This applies to separate Scrap expeditions, not sector battles or endless Scavenge.
