4 Best Zombie Base-Building Games on Mobile, Plus Zombie Defence in Alpha
From hands-on scavenging to underground room management, compare four mobile games and one separate Alpha project.

A zombie shelter can mean a shack you build piece by piece, a settlement of upgradeable facilities, or a cutaway bunker where survivors keep production running. These four current mobile games cover those different jobs: Last Day on Earth puts you in the field, State of Survival leans on settlement strategy and alliances, and Last Fortress: Underground and Zero City build their loops around underground rooms and survivor teams.
Each pick had an Android Google Play listing and a U.S. iPhone/iPad App Store listing on September 26, 2026; regional availability and store offers can differ. All four are free to download in those storefronts with optional purchases, though Google Play also labels ads for Last Day on Earth and Zero City. Zombie Defence is a separate browser Alpha comparison: its outings feed fixed shelter stations, but a native mobile app is still planned.

The games
Last Day on Earth: Survival
A survival-action loop where you collect materials yourself, fight as one survivor, then spend the haul on walls, traps and workbenches.
- Shelter building
- Crafting
- Exploration
- Platforms
- Android on Google Play; iPhone and iPad on the U.S. App Store. Regional availability varies.
- Price model
- Free to download with in-app purchases. Google Play lists ads and random-item purchases; Apple lists advertising and in-app purchases. Store terms can vary by region.
Last Day on Earth is the most hands-on match in this group. You leave home to gather supplies in hostile locations, then bring them back for weapons, storage, workbenches and shelter defenses. The base is assembled from floor and wall pieces, with defenses and crafting stations placed around it. The archived touch screenshot shows a survivor moving across the shelter between a crop patch, a furnace, a workbench and storage.
The action loop also keeps your survivor in the frame: the current Google Play description centers on looting, shooting, crafting and carrying the risk of a dangerous trip. It says items are safe if you die at base, while death in random locations costs carried loot. The core journey is single-player; the separately unlocked Crater adds clan play, trading and PvP, and the listing requires a stable internet connection.

The verdict
Choose Last Day on Earth if you want to control one survivor on supply runs and turn the materials into a visibly custom home. It offers the clearest mobile answer here to both direct action and piece-by-piece construction.
State of Survival: Zombie War
A settlement-and-alliance strategy game whose home upgrades, troop training and hero systems take more attention than a direct survival shooter.
- Shelter building
- Squad builds
- Base defense
- Platforms
- Android on Google Play; iPhone and iPad on the U.S. App Store. Regional availability varies.
- Price model
- Free to download with optional in-app purchases; the current Google Play listing discloses random-item purchases. Regional offers can change.
State of Survival is the pick if the base is one part of a larger strategy campaign. You develop a settlement, gather resources, research, train troops and recruit heroes; alliances can help with defense and cross-server conflict. That makes its long-term base layer broader and more social than Last Day on Earth, but it is not the same close-up loop of taking one survivor out to gather and shoot.
Combat spans more than one mode: the current App Store description separately lists Survival Royale, where you collect equipment and try to survive a shrinking danger zone. Treat that as an event alongside the alliance strategy, not as the way the base itself is built. The illustrated settlement screenshot is a player layout reproduced in Pocket Gamer’s February 2023 guide, so it is a dated example rather than proof of today’s interface.

The verdict
Pick State of Survival when you want a connected settlement campaign and social strategy more than a solitary shelter run. Its separate survival events add action, but the base loop remains about planning armies, upgrades and alliances.
Last Fortress: Underground
An underground shelter manager where you expand rooms, put specialist survivors to work and prepare hero teams for outside threats.
- Shelter building
- Squad builds
- Co-op
- Farming
- Platforms
- Android on Google Play; iPhone and iPad on the U.S. App Store. Regional availability varies.
- Price model
- Free to download with in-app purchases; Google Play discloses random-item content and Apple lists loot boxes. Offers vary by region.
Last Fortress makes the shelter itself the main project. You excavate space and add rooms for power, food and other facilities, then assign survivors with useful jobs such as cooking, engineering, mining or research. Its official listing lets you design the shelter layout, but the freedom is within a bunker of facilities and dug-out floors, not block-by-block outdoor construction.
Combat also starts from the management layer: choose heroes, use their skills and synergies, and send a team into outside missions or alliance activity. You are preparing a roster rather than steering one survivor through every fight. The App Store screenshot shows production floors with crops and livestock beside an active excavation area, a good example of why the game suits players who want base depth more than manual shooting. Social systems can speed construction and research, so solo scavenging is not its only rhythm.

The verdict
Choose Last Fortress: Underground for a substantial bunker-management focus. It gives you room layout and survivor roles to tune, while its conflict leans on hero teams and alliance activity instead of direct shooting.
Zero City: Zombie Shelter Game
A shelter-and-squad game with connected rooms, survivor assignments, a campaign and rival-base PvP.
- Shelter building
- Squad builds
- Base defense
- Platforms
- Android on Google Play; iPhone and iPad on the U.S. App Store. Regional availability varies.
- Price model
- Free to download with in-app purchases. Google Play lists ads and random-item purchases; the U.S. App Store lists advertising and loot boxes. Regional offers can change.
Zero City turns a bunker into a roster-management puzzle. You build and upgrade rooms, assign residents to jobs, develop fighters and make equipment for squads. That gives it more visible room-level management than State of Survival, but construction is organized around an underground shelter rather than an open plot where you shape a sprawling base.
The fighting follows the squad choices: choose survivors, weapons and equipment for campaign battles, then compete against other commanders or attack rival shelters. It is a team-preparation loop rather than the one-character scavenging trip in Last Day on Earth. A store screenshot shows the shelter’s connected rooms alongside the resource, map and market interface.

The verdict
Pick Zero City if you want an underground shelter that feeds into survivor squads and campaign battles. Its room-and-equipment choices create a clear management loop, while fights are about your team setup rather than direct survivor aiming.
Zombie Defence
An in-development action loop where you extract Scrap and invest it in persistent station rooms, research, crafting and crops.
- Fast-paced
- Extraction
- Shelter building
- Crafting
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Browser Alpha development build; native Android and iPhone/iPad releases are planned.
- Price model
- Freemium is planned, but release pricing and monetization have not been finalized.
Zombie Defence connects fights to a permanent shelter economy. You leave on an outing, collect resources and can take a dedicated Scrap expedition; picked-up Scrap remains after extraction or defeat, up to storage capacity. The loop is active rather than a detached settlement timer, but the shelter uses fixed workshop and utility stations instead of freeform building.
At home, Scrap and other supplies feed station upgrades, research, crafting and crops. Its shelter view shows a workbench and utility stations in connected rooms. Current touch-fire logic selects the nearest enemy, while desktop cursor aim is a separate control mode.

The verdict
Keep Zombie Defence on your watchlist if you want active outings to feed lasting shelter projects. Scrap from each expedition can support station upgrades, research, crafting and crops.
