7 Games Like State of Survival With More Direct Combat
Keep the apocalypse management, but move more of the fighting into your hands.

If State of Survival’s city building works for you but its alliance strategy feels too abstract, Left to Survive is the closest mobile shift: it pairs shooter missions with a camp you build and defend. State of Survival already has zombie fights, hero abilities, and special modes such as Survival Royale; its main loop is still shelter upgrades, troops, research, and alliance strategy.
The games below move more of the battle into direct survivor control. DEAD TRIGGER 2 focuses on first-person missions, while State of Decay 2 and 7 Days to Die put combat beside a persistent home. Zombie Defence ties top-down shooting to extraction and shelter production; the other picks range from open-world survival to focused action.

The games
Left to Survive
Third-person action missions and an upgradeable encampment keep shooting and base growth in the same loop.
- Manual aim
- Shelter building
- Loot builds
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Android and iPhone/iPad; store availability varies by region.
- Price model
- Free download with ads and in-app purchases; a paid Survival Pass adds building, mission-reward, and production benefits.
Left to Survive puts an armed survivor in the foreground: take aim at infected and bosses, rescue survivors, then bring resources back to an encampment you can build and defend. Helicopter raids target rival bases, and the current store listing also describes solo and 2v2 PvP. It is the clearest phone-game bridge from State of Survival’s base layer to player-led shooting.
The action happens in missions rather than a free-roaming survival world. The camp still gives resources and defenders a home, but the Survival Pass sells useful advantages such as simultaneous building upgrades, better mission rewards, and production-boosting survivors. Choose it for shooter stages wrapped around a base economy, not for a deep settlement simulator.

The verdict
Pick Left to Survive when you want the most direct mobile blend of base growth and shooter missions. Its camp is useful, though the action is stage-based.
Zombie Defence
A top-down action game links manual desktop shooting and Scrap extraction to shelter production, crafting, research, and crops.
- Manual aim (desktop)
- Extraction
- Shelter building
- Crafting
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Browser Alpha (development build); native mobile stores are planned.
- Price model
- Freemium planned; launch pricing and monetization terms are unconfirmed.
On desktop, you move, aim with the mouse, fire, manage ammunition, and reload. Three-wave sector battles, endless scavenging, and separate Scrap expeditions give outings different goals. Picked-up Scrap survives extraction or defeat subject to storage limits, so a failed trip can still support the next upgrade.
The shelter turns those hauls into production, weapon crafting, research, and cultivation; its station and room upgrades persist through defeat. Touch uses a movement joystick and a fire control that targets the nearest enemy. The current demo has one survivor, Mara, and uses defined stations rather than freeform building.

The verdict
Choose Zombie Defence for direct shooting with a resource loop that carries into the shelter. It gives each outing a purpose beyond clearing another wave.
DEAD TRIGGER 2
A mobile FPS trades troop dispatch for mission gunplay, weapon choices, and a staffed hideout.
- Fast-paced
- Manual aim
- Loot builds
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Android and iPhone/iPad.
- Price model
- Free download with ads and in-app purchases.
DEAD TRIGGER 2 is built around a first-person zombie campaign, with regions, battlefield missions, boss encounters, firearms, melee weapons, and gadgets. Its touch-control options keep the weapon view at the center of the action, making it a better fit when you want to face each encounter yourself instead of sending a hero squad.
Progression continues at the Personal Hideout, where a Gunsmith, Scientist, Smuggler, Medic, and Engineer support your preparations. That hub is smaller than State of Survival’s city and alliance layer; the focus is missions and loadout choices. It is a good mobile alternative for action first, with only a compact management stop between deployments.

The verdict
Choose DEAD TRIGGER 2 when first-person zombie missions matter more than managing a large settlement. Its hideout keeps a little preparation between firefights.
State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition
Choose a survivor for a dangerous supply run, then use the haul to keep a community and its base going.
- Exploration
- Crafting
- Shelter building
- Co-op
- Platforms
- Windows PC and Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S.
- Price model
- Premium purchase; Xbox Game Pass access varies by plan and region.
You select one survivor, equip them, and head into an open world for food, parts, or ammunition. Third-person melee and firearms put that survivor directly in your hands. Their traits and skills matter back at base, where facilities and supplies support the whole community.
This is a strong PC or console match if you want to keep survivor recruitment and shelter choices but play the battles yourself. Its facility-based base is less like a city-building strategy game than State of Survival, and the open map adds travel and scavenging to every outing. The Juggernaut Edition also includes a story campaign and a separate siege mode.

The verdict
Pick State of Decay 2 for direct survivor action without giving up a community to maintain. Its broader map replaces quick strategy-game sessions with longer field trips.
7 Days to Die
A first-person zombie sandbox turns your home into a defense project between resource runs.
- Exploration
- Crafting
- Shelter building
- Co-op
- Platforms
- Windows, macOS, and Linux on Steam; solo and multiplayer modes.
- Price model
- Premium purchase on Steam.
7 Days to Die combines first-person shooting, survival, RPG growth, and tower defense. You control one survivor while looting, crafting, and expanding a home from block-built rooms into a fortified base. Traps, electric systems, and automatic turrets let you shape how the next horde meets your walls.
This is the most construction-heavy option here: you place and reinforce the defenses instead of upgrading a city through menus. The tradeoff is scope. Hunger, crafting, exploration, and building compete for attention, so it suits players ready for a full survival sandbox rather than a quick mobile strategy session. Steam lists solo and multiplayer play.

The verdict
Choose 7 Days to Die if you want to build the defenses and fight beside them yourself. It delivers the biggest construction sandbox on this list.
Undawn
An online action-survival world pairs weapon combat with a highly customizable home.
- Exploration
- Crafting
- Shelter building
- Co-op
- Platforms
- Android and iPhone/iPad; regional availability varies.
- Price model
- Free download with in-app purchases; the iOS listing discloses loot boxes.
Undawn sends you through a large world of infected zones, weather, and other survivors. PvE and PvP modes, weapons, melee gear, drones, decoys, turrets, and vehicles give combat more variety than a march screen. You can also build a manor from many furniture and structure options, then expand it over time.
Its hunger, hydration, health, and weather systems make this a bigger survival-RPG commitment than State of Survival’s city view. The home-building freedom is a draw if you want a personal base as well as action, but the online world brings social competition and a wider in-app purchase economy. Choose it for breadth rather than a focused campaign.

The verdict
Pick Undawn if a customizable home and a large online action world appeal more than a compact base-and-mission loop. It is the broadest mobile survival option here.
Last Day on Earth: Survival
A single survivor gathers supplies, crafts weapons, and turns a small shelter into a fortified base.
- Exploration
- Crafting
- Shelter building
- Loot builds
- Platforms
- Android and iPhone/iPad; regional availability varies.
- Price model
- Free download with ads and in-app purchases; Google Play discloses random-item purchases.
You guide one survivor through hostile zones, fight with crafted melee weapons or firearms, gather materials, and return to upgrade walls, traps, storage, and workbenches. Loot from harder places can unlock stronger gear and shelter defenses, so the trip itself supplies the next stage of your base.
The risk is more immediate than a strategy-game march: the current listing says loot can be lost when you die away from your base, while items are safe if you die at home. Kefir’s help page says recovering a body is conditional, so it is worth packing carefully. Its core journey is single-player; the separate Crater zone has clans and PvP.

The verdict
Choose Last Day on Earth for a mobile solo loop where every trip can improve your shelter or put supplies at risk. It keeps survival and combat closely tied.
