7 Best Zombie Games With Endless Survival Modes
Seven ways to see how long you can hold the line

Strong endless zombie games keep pressure rising until you fall, the defense breaks, or you end a run. This list separates open-ended survival from finite campaigns.
Choose Killing Floor 2 or Left 4 Dead 2 for co-op holds, Plants vs. Zombies for lane strategy, and Nation Red or the Yet Another games for arcade action. Zombie Defence connects endless scavenging with shelter upgrades that survive defeat, plus production, crafting, research, and crops.

The games
Killing Floor 2
A class shooter where harder Zed waves continue until the co-op team falls.
- Co-op
- Fast-paced
- Manual aim
- Tactical combat
- Platforms
- Windows PC (Steam)
- Price model
- Premium purchase; optional paid content is sold separately
Killing Floor 2's Endless mode sends harder Zed waves until the team falls. Regular Survival playlists instead use a set wave count and boss finish. Solo play is available, but six-player co-op makes lane holds and teammate support central.
Classes give each player a role, while perks and weapons add variety to repeat runs. Long matches demand attention, and optional DLC costs extra. Choose it for an escalating holdout rather than a campaign to clear.

The verdict
Choose it for a focused, escalating holdout built around class teamwork.
Yet Another Zombie Survivors
Two marathon modes pair escalating Endurance pressure with an extended squad-build option.
- Roguelite
- Squad builds
- Short runs
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Windows PC (Steam)
- Price model
- Premium purchase; a free demo is available
The old Endless label split into Endurance and Infinite, two runs with different rules. Endurance adds Elite Bosses after 20 minutes. Infinite removes the item-slot limit but disables most achievements; in version 1.0, reach 30 minutes in an arena’s Endurance run to unlock its Infinite mode.
You steer up to three survivors while attacks run largely on their own, shaping the squad through upgrades and synergies. A free Steam demo is available. Infinite’s arena-specific unlock and automatic attacks may not suit players who want immediate access or manual aim.

The verdict
Pick Endurance for rising pressure or Infinite for a roomier squad build.
Zombie Defence
Open-ended scavenging feeds a shelter with production, crafting, research, and crops.
- Manual aim (desktop)
- Extraction
- Shelter building
- Crafting
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Browser Alpha (development build); native mobile stores are planned.
- Price model
- Freemium planned; launch pricing and monetization terms are unconfirmed.
Endless Scrapes keeps waves coming and raises pressure instead of ending after a fixed sector battle. It is separate from three-wave sectors and Scrap expeditions with city scavenging and extraction. Desktop play uses cursor aim, firing, ammo, and reloads; touchscreen firing targets the nearest enemy.
Shelter upgrades persist through defeat, while production, weapon crafting, research, and cultivation carry the project between outings. The current build has one playable survivor and station-based shelter upgrades rather than freeform base placement.

The verdict
Choose Zombie Defence when you want an endless run to support a lasting shelter, with production, crafting, research, and crops extending the investment.
Left 4 Dead 2
A co-op shooter with a large set of official Survival holdout maps.
- Co-op
- Fast-paced
- Manual aim
- Tactical combat
- Platforms
- Windows and Linux PC (Steam)
- Price model
- Premium Steam purchase; regional pricing varies
Left 4 Dead 2's Survival mode asks how long your group can hold one place against the infected. Valve's Last Stand update added 26 maps for these compact defenses. The Last Stand campaign is a separate, escapable story route, not a Survival ending.
Special Infected can pull a teammate out of position while the horde closes in, so callouts and rescues matter. Steam also lists solo play, campaigns, online co-op, and Workshop support. Survival rewards records more than permanent character stats, making it a team-skill challenge rather than a growing build.

The verdict
Best for cooperative holdouts where each rescue and last safe corner matters.
Plants vs. Zombies GOTY Edition
Survival: Pool (Endless) turns lane defense into an open-ended seed-planning puzzle.
- Base defense
- Tactical combat
- Short runs
- Permanent progress
- Platforms
- Windows PC (Steam)
- Price model
- Premium purchase; a free PC demo is available
Plants vs. Zombies includes a literal Survival: Pool (Endless) level. EA’s manual says standard maps run five flags and hard maps ten, while Endless continues as long as you can manage. Waves grow harder, and you may choose a new seed set between flags.
Sunflowers build the economy; blockers, shooters, traps, and special plants answer different threats. Survival unlocks after Adventure, and this is lane defense rather than manual-aim shooting. Steam lists a free PC demo alongside the premium GOTY edition.

The verdict
Choose it when you want endless zombie pressure to test a defense plan.
Nation Red
An infinite-play arena shooter with bosses and nearly 100 perks to shape runs.
- Fast-paced
- Manual aim
- Co-op
- Roguelite
- Platforms
- Windows and Linux PC (Steam)
- Price model
- Premium purchase; a free demo is available
Nation Red's Steam page calls it an infinite-play arena shooter and lists Survival, Free Play, and Barricade. Fight zombie mutants and bosses in a compact arena, collecting weapons and modifiers as the crowd grows. The overhead view keeps enemies visible, but close-quarters pace rewards constant movement.
Nearly 100 perks and several modes create run variety; solo and co-op play plus a demo are listed. Its arena combat centers on on-run modifiers rather than lasting shelter investment, so it suits players who want fast repeat attempts.

The verdict
A strong fit for quick arena runs and a deep stack of combat modifiers.
Yet Another Zombie Defense HD
A twin-stick Endless arena with escalating waves, weapon drops, and no build phase.
- Base defense
- Tactical combat
- Shelter building
- Short runs
- Platforms
- Windows PC (Steam)
- Price model
- Premium purchase; a free Steam demo is available
Yet Another Zombie Defense HD's Endless mode is nonstop top-down fighting, not pre-wave construction. You start with a pistol; zombies drop weapons and ammo as increasingly strong and numerous waves arrive. Steam lists Endless separately from Defense and Deathmatch, with local or online co-op for up to four.
There is no build-and-shop pause in Endless: movement, aiming, and the next useful drop define the run. Barricades and turrets belong to the separate Defense mode. A free Steam demo is available. The tradeoff is less long-term shelter or character progress than in persistent survival games.

The verdict
Choose it for nonstop movement and pickups; choose Defense for the separate barricade-and-turret loop.
