5 Browser Alternatives to Zombie Waves: 4 Playable Picks and Zombie Defence in Alpha

Compare automatic fire, barricade defense, arcade unlocks and manual shooting against hordes.

If you want Zombie Waves-style zombie action in a browser, start with Zombie Rush for automatic-fire waves, Zombie Horde: Build & Survive for barricades and turrets, Cat Gunner for weapon unlocks, or Horde Killer for direct third-person aiming. These are separate games, not an official Zombie Waves web port.

Zombie Waves already lists Camp Building, so a shelter by itself is not the distinction to look for. The picks below differ in how they handle a horde, aim and upgrades. Zombie Defence earns a place at number three for a more connected loop: manual desktop shooting and Scrap expeditions feed production, weapon crafting, research and crops at a persistent shelter.

Zombie Rush is the easiest starting point if your favorite part of Zombie Waves is building strength while a crowd keeps coming. Move through waves with WASD or the arrow keys; the guns fire automatically, leaving you to watch the space around your hero. Defeating zombies earns gems that power up hero abilities, while perks enhance special skills as the run gets harder.

That shifts the skill test toward choosing a safe route through the crowd while taking fights that earn upgrade gems, without getting boxed in. Different heroes add another run-level choice, so it suits players who want character abilities and quick upgrade decisions without learning a larger control scheme. As the zombies become more dangerous, keeping a route open takes steady movement.

What works

  • Automatic guns leave movement and crowd spacing as the main combat decisions.
  • Hero abilities, gems and perks give each wave run a clear upgrade path.

Worth knowing

  • Defeating zombies earns the gems that power up abilities, so avoiding fights slows ability growth.
  • Later waves bring more dangerous zombies, increasing pressure on route choices.

Combat rewards steering through rising zombie waves while automatic fire handles target acquisition, making movement the active skill. Hero abilities, gems and perks shape each run, and simple directional controls help usability; free browser access supports value. It closely fits the wave-and-upgrade query, with later waves demanding steady route changes.

The verdict

Choose Zombie Rush when you want a browser horde run built around steering, hero abilities and upgrades instead of manual aiming.

Each round gives you a breather to spend rewards on barricades, weapons, turrets or spiked floors before the next wave. Once the zombies close in, shooting happens automatically and your movement direction sets the aim. That makes Zombie Horde a useful alternative for players who like the pressure of waves but want the fight to include quick defensive setup between them.

The purchases have distinct jobs. Barricades slow the swarm, while weapons and turrets deal damage; spiked floors help hold enemies back but cannot clear a wave on their own. You still have to move, keep a route open and put enough rewards into firepower before the horde breaks through. Desktop uses keyboard movement, while mobile uses a joystick, preserving the same position-first idea across devices.

What works

  • Barricades, traps, weapons and turrets offer several ways to manage the next wave.
  • Automatic fire keeps the control scheme focused on movement and spacing.

Worth knowing

  • Movement direction sets aim, so changing firing lanes requires steering.
  • Barricades only delay the horde; defensive spending cannot replace weapon damage.

Positioning and wave-to-wave purchases create useful tactical choices, with turrets and weapons giving rewards an immediate payoff. Barricades buy time but do not kill, and steering also sets shot direction. The movement controls make entry easy, free browser access supports value, and the defensive setup is a close fit for arcade horde play.

The verdict

Pick Zombie Horde for short browser defense rounds where choosing what to fortify matters as much as dodging.

Zombie Defence

Hands-on zombie combat and Scrap expeditions connect to a shelter with production, crafting, research and crops.

Zombie Defence makes the connection between a fight and what happens afterward its main draw. The current build includes three-wave sector battles, endless scavenging and separate Scrap expeditions with city scavenging and extraction. On desktop, movement, cursor aim, firing, ammunition and reloads keep combat active. Touch controls use a movement joystick and a separate fire input that targets the nearest living enemy, so the assistance does not turn combat into an unattended process.

In a Scrap expedition, picked-up Scrap stays with the campaign after extraction or defeat, up to shelter storage capacity. This forgiving retention lets an outing still advance the campaign after a failed extraction, while the capacity limit gives stored resources a practical ceiling. At the shelter, stations produce supplies, weapons can be crafted, research unlocks improvements, workers support the base, and lettuce, tomatoes and roses add cultivation. The payoff is how an expedition feeds this wider production and research loop.

What works

  • Manual desktop aim, ammunition and reloads make each firefight hands-on.
  • Scrap expeditions connect scavenging and extraction to production, crafting, research and crop growth.
  • In Scrap expeditions, picked-up Scrap remains after extraction or defeat within shelter capacity; shelter upgrades also persist through defeat.

Worth knowing

  • The shelter grows through room and station upgrades rather than freeform building.
  • Mara is the only playable survivor in the current demo.

Manual desktop aim, ammunition and reloads, together with three outing types, make combat active and varied. Production, crafting, research and crops give recovered Scrap several lasting uses. Room-based upgrades and a Mara-only roster limit building freedom and combat variety. Scrap expeditions retain picked-up Scrap after extraction or defeat within capacity, making their loss stakes forgiving. Its strongest fit is for players who want expeditions and lasting projects alongside the horde combat.

The verdict

Explore Zombie Defence for a manual zombie shooter where Scrap runs can support lasting shelter projects.

Cat Gunner: Super Zombie Shoot

Cat Gunner swaps grim survival for an arcade story about a feline world under attack. Run through infected streets, shoot zombie cats and rescue kittens while picking up coins and fish. Those rewards unlock new cat teammates, weapons such as flamethrowers and ice beams, and mounts ranging from a hoverboard to a T-Rex. Boss zombies give the level runs a bigger target than the ordinary infected.

The controls make it a different kind of shooter from a mouse-aim game: WASD or arrows run, Space shoots, F dashes, R changes weapons and G throws a grenade. That gives movement and timing a larger role than aiming a cursor, with switches and evasive dashes to manage as enemies approach. Bright pixel art and a rescue mission make it the lightest, most arcade-styled option here.

What works

  • Coins and fish unlock teammates, weapons and mounts, giving rewards several uses.
  • Dashing, weapon swaps, grenades and boss zombies vary the action.

Worth knowing

  • The bright animal-rescue tone is far lighter than survival horror.
  • Keyboard run-and-fire controls favor movement timing over cursor-aim precision.

Running, shooting, dashing and grenades make for varied arcade combat, although it is not built around cursor aim. Coins and fish unlock multiple gear types, and free browser access helps value. Its playful pixel-art setting and keyboard-first controls give it a lighter run-and-gun tone than a gritty zombie shooter.

The verdict

Play Cat Gunner for a colorful browser shooter with a steady stream of unlockable equipment and bosses.

Horde Killer: You vs 100

A third-person action game built around aiming, reloading, grenades and evasive movement as a crowd closes in.

Horde Killer is the clearest pick here when you want to aim at zombies yourself. WASD moves, right-click aims, left-click shoots, R reloads, G throws a grenade and Space rolls or climbs. You face a horde of 100 zombies, with a weapon shop and character customization between fights. The shop gives a practical reason to try another run: buy weapons and explosives, then decide how to create space when the swarm gets too close.

Its keyboard-and-mouse layout carries more inputs than the auto-fire picks. The captured loadout also offers optional WATCH AD bonuses such as a temporary RPG, minigun, invulnerability and endless ammunition; the normal weapon shop remains available. Its appeal is immediate movement and aim against a large crowd, with weapons and customization between fights.

What works

  • Right-click aim and left-click fire put shot placement in your hands.
  • Reloads, grenades, rolling and climbing give several ways to escape pressure.
  • The weapon shop and character customization add goals between fights.

Worth knowing

  • The optional RPG and minigun ad bonuses last one round, so they are temporary boosts rather than lasting loadout upgrades.
  • Aiming, weapon changes, reloads and grenades mean more inputs to learn than in the other horde picks.

Aiming, reloading, grenades and evasive movement make combat highly hands-on, and the shop adds weapons and customization goals between fights. Multiple desktop inputs demand more attention, while free browser access supports value alongside optional ad-reward boosts. It is a looser Zombie Waves match because direct third-person aim replaces automatic-fire build play.

The verdict

Pick Horde Killer for a keyboard-and-mouse browser shooter with direct aim, grenades and evasive movement.
